BECAUSE FASHION: Russell Westbrook Has No Time For Other NBA Games
Some people were hailing Monday night's showdown between the San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors as possibly one of the greatest regular season matchups ever. So naturally, while the rest of the basketball-viewing public were watching Steph Curry's jaw-dropping annihalation of Kawhi Leonard on NBA TV, Russell Westbrook was picking out a snazzy new poncho.
According to Anthony Slater of NewsOK.com, the star point guard of the Oklahoma City Thunder says he has "other things to do with [his] life" than watch NBA games that he isn't playing in.
These comments show a shocking disinterest in pandering to the cultural expectation of hardwork and humility from professional American athletes. Even when we know it's feigned, we expect a general effort on the part of these multi-millionaires to at least try to make us think that they care a whole lot about their jobs.
Not Russell though. He is refreshingly unafraid to pursue his love of shopping, fashion and all other things in general in lieu of scouting his competition or paying any attention whatsoever to the goings-on of the league he gets paid to play for.
In the end, Westbrook's steadfast committment to color-blocking and futuristic tunics may be the reason he never wins an NBA Championship; but at least he'll always be the best-dressed guy in the loser's locker room.
