Charles Barkley Goes Off Script, Calls Out CNN, Donald Trump Supporters
The similarities between Donald Trump and Charles Barkley are pretty obvious. They're both brash, outspoken, undersized power forwards who consistently and inexplicably convert opinions into popularity. I guess people respect their candor. Whatever.
Thursday night, Barkley was asked for his take on a variety of political topics ahead of CNN's airing of the final GOP debate. You could almost hear the corks popping at the Turner studios in Atlanta as they prepared for yet another moon landing-caliber ratings boost. Then Chuck started talking...
"I love CNN because they're part of our company, but they've been kissing butt, chasing ratings," Barkley told Ernie Johnson. "They've become like Fox News."
Hey, if Donald Trump can win voters with comically xenophobic policy ideas, maybe this kind of open dissention will win CNN some fans. Who knows?
Speaking of Trump, Barkley had some pretty harsh/totally accurate stuff to say about his supporters.
"It's sad," he started out after being asked to explain Trump's rise in popularity. "To insult people, but then you've got these losers who love them because they're afraid to look in the mirror and say why their life sucks, so they have to blame other people."
His message to Trump supporters was clear: "Your life sucks because of you, not because of Hispanics."
