Derrick Rose Having His Best Preseason Game At Halftime Versus Cavs
The big question through international play this summer and preseason play thus far for the Chicago Bulls is a simple one: has Derrick Rose lost his groove? After spending most of the last two years away from the sport as he recuperated from injuries, Rose struggled in his comeback during his stint with the United States national team this summer.
Heading into his seventh preseason game tonight, Rose had yet to score more than 17 points in a game, not bad relative to league scoring averages but not up to his standards. He was shooting 6-for-18 from behind the arc and shot at 33 percent or less from the field in three games.
They say that it takes the best to bring out the best in a player like Rose, and that is certainly ringing true on Monday night. Facing off against the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers, Rose is shooting 8-of-12 at halftime and has hit all three attempts from three-point range. He has 20 points, four rebounds, and one assist with no turnovers.
I know, I know. It's only preseason basketball. But it's also the first good NBA game that Derrick Rose has had in a couple of years. The jury is still out on Rose's return and whether he's anything more than a shadow of his former self, but his first half tonight proves that the old Derrick Rose is still somewhere in there.
We'll be sure to update you when he goes off for 30 more points in the second half.
