Emmanuel Mudiay VS D’Angelo Russell Highlights Foreshadow PG Rivalry Of The Future
Leading up the All-Star break, the two best point guards in the 2015 draft looked raw. Sure, nearly every rookie not named Karl-Anthony Towns has struggled acclimating to the pro game, and it's not like Emmanuel Mudiay and D'Angelo Russell didn't show occasional flashes that reassured their respective fan bases of their worthiness as lottery picks. Needless to say, questions remained about their presumed accessions to NBA superstardom.
Case and point: through their first 42 games, Mudiay and Russell averaged less than 12 points and five assists while leading their teams in turnovers per 100 possessions. However, since then, both players' have markedly improved in literally every statistical category. Disaster averted, Lakers/Nuggets fans. Your young guns are trending in the right direction.
Wednesday night, the two squared off in an promising Western Conference head-to-head duel that basketball fans can get excited about watching for the next 10 years. Mudiay had his best game of the season and Russell lead his team in scoring for the third consecutive game -- which I assume they celebrated with ice cream sundaes and some orange soda because neither is old enough to legally consume alcohol.
