FACEPALM: Donald Trump Thinks ‘San Francisco’ Is In The NBA Finals
Current presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has literally no idea what's going on. Ever. Particularly when it comes to sports. That true and basic fact has never been more evident than at his rally on Thursday night in San Jose, where he attempted to pander to the basketball fans in the crowd.
"You have San Francisco playing the game tonight ... And look at this crowd ... This is unbelievable."
Now based on the fact that you are currently reading a sports blog, you've probably already determined that not only is the name of the team the Golden State Warriors, but they play in Oakland; not San Francisco.
Sometimes getting halfway there and totally whiffing is worse than not trying at all. As a sports fan, I'd rather that politicians just admit that they don't know what's going on with my favorite teams than pretend to care and get it all wrong. That's far more awkward.
There is no NBA team in San Francisco, or with the city of San Francisco's name attached to it. That's a distinction that people should care about, because you know, it requires merely two seconds of Googling to find that out. Sure, he picked a fellow Bay Area city but should we really accept the "close enough" excuse from a guy who wants to be in charge of the free world?
The fact of the matters is that The Donald has not and will never research the veracity of what he's going to say before he says it. That may not have any bearing on the outcome of the NBA Finals, but I have a feeling it could be an issue going forward if he were to get hired for that big job he's been interviewing for.
