There is just something about the post game press conference that brings out the greatest honesty in an athlete. That’s not to say that they always share their most sincere thoughts, because Bill Belichick and Gregg Popovich have both mastered the ability to say absolutely nothing whenever they feel like it. But something that both Belichick and Pop can’t fake is what their face does.
No matter how well athletes and coaches may mince and parse their words, if they speak long and often enough, their faces will inevitably betray them. Whether they are hiding inner turmoil, bottled up rage or even utter disinterest, the camera will eventually coax it out of them whether they like it or not. And generally, the results are hilarious.
I cannot explain to you why it is so funny, it just is. There’s something about a press conference that really highlights the “resting pissed face” that athletes so often possess due to their constant interaction with the media. As soon as they start to tune out, their faces tune right in and do all the work for them. And very often the results are unflattering at best.
So without further ado, here is a visual history of some of the most pissed off and downright snarky NBA Finals postgame press conference faces.
