Ice Cube Says Chauncey Billups Has Already Taken The Cavs GM Job
As you know, Chauncey Billups is the favorite to slide into the Cleveland Cavaliers' general manager job, now that David Griffin has been fired (sorry! Mutual agreement with Dan Gilbert to step down!). He's the only candidate to interview so far, which he did today for a second time.
But there has of yet been no announcement ... unless you count Ice Cube.
Cube is running the new BIG3 3-on-3 League, which debuts this coming weekend. Billips was supposed to be a player/coach on one of the teams, along with teammate Stephen Jackson. When TMZ asked about that, this is when Cube spilled the beans about the Cavs' job:
"It was the Killer 3's (led by Chauncey and Stephen Jackson) for a minute but since Chauncey took that job, it might change."
It's been reported that Chauncey's in talks with the Cavs -- but nothing has been confirmed publicly ... at least not yet. Cube also talked Allen Iverson -- telling TMZ Sports the NBA legend has been working out like crazy and he's "ready to go."
Past tense tells all.
Going from player/coach in a 3-on-3 league to one of the most pressure-packed GM jobs in sports right before the draft is pretty crazy stuff. Especially since it's been reported that LeBron and Ty Lue weren't even given a heads-up on any of it. So if I were LeBron I'd be thinking pretty seriously about free agency and the Lakers right now -- The Land, or at least its owner, is a circus at the moment.
