John Wall: Wiz Fans More Excited About “A Chicken Sandwich” Than Wins
Go cluck yourselves Wizards fans!
At least, that's the message of your team's superstar PG John Wall. Despite a 98-86 victory for DC, the 25 year-old All Star displayed annoyance, mostly in jest, about how the Wiz faithful seemed more excited about free chicken sandwiches from Chick-Fil-A than Washington's victory that night.
Fresh off an appearance in the NBA All-Star Game in which Wall scored 22 points, the Kentucky alum picked up right where he left off, matching the point tally while adding 8 rebounds and assists each. Naturally, the performance earned him and interview with CSN Mid-Atlantic sideline reporter Chris Miller, who questioned Wall about a team-run promotion that gives away free editions of Chick-Fil-A's renowned sandwich if an opponent misses both free throws in a 4th quarter trip to the foul line, which was achieved when Aron Baynes bricked two in the final frame of the contest.
Wall's jealousy of the poultry goodness is part of the near cult following that the Wizards' promotion has created. Zach Lower, formerly of Grantland, called it the "best free food promotion in the league", while the Washington Post dedicated a whole article to the phenomenon, in which Marcin Gortat reveals that he, like the fans, may want that chicken sandwich a little too badly as well.
Hey, when your team is 25-28, you have to cheer for something right?
