New York Knicks rookie and Latvian sensation Kristaps Porzingis has quickly become the NBA's fastest rising star, reinvigorating the front court of his previously dreadful team with not just his incredible height but also some skilled shooting that is uncharacteristic of players his size.
But it's not just the citizens of Manhattan that are cheering for the 7'3" 20-year-old.
Porzingis' hometown of Liepāja, Latvia has been hit hard with Kristaps Fever as well. So much so in fact that they have put up new billboards boasting his ties to their city of 83,000 people. A tweet of said billboards from the city's Twitter account shows them off in a collage with a caption that translates to: "From the heart Liepāja boasts Kristaps Porzingis!"
The city is also pushing for Latvia citizens to help get Porzingis onto the All-Star ballot, saying "Support Liepāja's @kporzee and vote on membership in NBA -Star Game!" Porzingis is currently 9th in voting - pretty impressive for a rookie - with over 160,000 nods so far.
