Matt Barnes Says He Kicked Derek Fisher’s Ass, Spit In Ex-Wife’s Face, In Weds. Confrontation
As we told you on Wednesday, Matt Barnes flew into a rage (fans self vigorously) when he discovered that ex-teammate and current Knicks head coach Derek Fisher was dating his estranged wife, Gloria Govan. So Barnes did what you or I would do -- he drove 95 miles from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles and assaulted Fisher at Govan's house.
So far we don't know what precisely happened during that confrontation, and we probably still don't. But we now have this report, which, if it is to be believed, is Barnes' version of what went down. It seems remarkably one-sided, so tread over it with caution.
Here's Barnes' version of the confrontation, according to the New York Post, via Black Sports Online:
Following the dustup, Barnes, 35, texted a pal that he had not only assaulted Fisher, 41, but also took revenge on Govan, one source said.
“I kicked his ass from the back yard to the front room, and spit in her face,” the text read, according to the source.
A source close to Fisher confirmed the fight, but insisted it wasn’t as one-sided as Barnes claimed.
“Matt came after Derek, but he only had a few scratches,” the source said. “Derek’s not going to press charges; he’s going to let it go.”
Barnes, who plays for the Grizzlies, was in Santa Barbara for training camp. Fisher was in LA to see his children, he said. Barnes formerly lived in the house in which the confrontation took place. There were about 10 witnesses.
The moral of the story? There is none. I wish everyone involved were crushed by a meteor, with extra-fiery shards.
