NBA Referee Bennie Adams Makes Perhaps The Worst Three-Point Call In NBA History
April 7 / Eric Goldschein / SportsGrid
Guys, there might be something seriously wrong with Bennie Adams. The 20-year-veteran of NBA officiating made a mistake so egregious during the Trailblazers-Nets game last night, we're not sure we can ever forgive him. And what's worse: The call was never corrected. The Blazers got an extra point for no reason.
The call came on a Damian Lillard jumper just outside the key. I might call this about 16 feet away from the basket, maybe 17. And yet...
How Adams ruled that a three, we may never know. I suppose he was focused on the footwork, saw Lillard pull up in front of a line (in this case, the top of the key) and said, well, I guess that's a three. As if to cover up the crime, the scores table marked this as a 25-foot three. On what planet?
Thankfully, the Nets won handily, so nothing was really on the line here. But this is inexcusable for a professional official. Adams might want to get his eyes checked.
