Pretty Much Screwed: The 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers
Hey Pennsylvania, are you ready for basketball season? This deer is. It was spotted in someone's back yard in Bethel Park, PA, which is near Pittsburgh, but I assume all the wildlife is the state are Sixers' fans. Then again, he could like the Milwaukee Bucks. It's a tossup.

The upcoming season, sadly, is not. We're not saying that the 76ers are going to struggle this year, but here's what they're doing with their season ticket plan: you get a free hat just for logging on to their site, then, a representative calls you and tries to sell you tickets. This is true. (I haven't checked, but I hear that HealthCare.Gov works exactly the same way).
This seems to be a team thrown together as a place-saver, until populated by better players through the next two drafts. Negatives: Key personnel losses, role-players asked to be starters, lots of youth. Positives: The youth is athletic, plus, free Big Macs! So let's get ready for a wild gallop through the NBA season, just like Paul Revere -- in that there will be plenty of panicky shrieking.
They're already talking about the 2014 draft
Several spottings of the term "Tankadelphia" in local and national media, even though it's still preseason and the 76ers are 2-1. No pretenses in Pennsylvania, however, as few harbor visions of the team going anywhere. That's way too harsh even for this feature: two key big men looked good in a 95-87 win over the Celtics -- Thaddeus Young and Spencer Hawes, 20 and 17 points respectively, each playing 30 or less minutes. Also, Jason Richardson returning soon (hopefully) from injury, and the man, the legend, Spencer Hawes. I'm anxious to see rookies Michael Carter-Williams (G, Syracuse) and Kentucky product Nerlens Noel -- the latter a sure No. 1 pick before tearing his ACL in Feb. New Orleans drafted Noel No. 6 overall, sending him, with a 2014 first-round pick, to the Sixers for Jrue Holiday and a 2013 second-round pick (No. 42 overall).
This could be the "Major League" of the NBA, in which a team seemingly put together to be horrible catches fire and starts winning. Or ...
Heck, they're already talking about the 2015 draft
Key losses: Holiday, Andrew Bynum, Dorell Wright and Nick Young (all free agents). Most are calling the Sixers the worst team in the NBA -- a team bred to lose for the future. Even their marketing campaign admits that.

Prediction Perdition: 21-61, last in the Atlantic.
FUN SIXERS FACTS:
• On this date in 1978, Maurice Cheeks (who would go on to be a four-time All-Star) made his NBA debut for the 76ers in a 110-102 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
• Great fan, or greatest fan?
• One of their key players is afraid of flying. Royce White has an anxiety disorder, and never played for his previous team, the Rockets. He made his Sixers' debut against the Celtics on Friday, and had 5 points and 5 fouls in less than 10 minutes.
• All will be fine as long as the fans get their free Big Macs. It did not happen in this game this past December, and the boos rained.
