Rondo Ruled Out For Game 5: Do The Bulls Still Have A Shot?
April 26 / Marcus Blackwell / SportsGrid
There was hope in the past couple days that Rajon Rondo, who was playing very well early in this series, would return tonight in Game 5. Rondo fractured his thumb back in Game 2 and has been officially ruled out of play for tonight's game.
Rondo was one of the biggest reasons that the Bulls were able to jump out to a very surprising 2-0 lead. In Game 2 Rondo was nearly perfect dropping 11 points, 14 assists, grabbing nine boards and getting five steals. His defense of Isaiah Thomas was exceptional, reminiscent of his prime years back when he was in Boston. Check out some of his Game 2 highlights below.
Can the Bulls still find a way to win this series? It's possible but very unlikely. An eight seed knocking off a 1 seed is a tall task on its own. but doing it without one of your veteran leaders and your starting point guard makes it even more difficult. Being that the series is 2-2 the Bulls will have another opportunity to play at home, and Rondo has not stated that he's done for the series, but things are definitely leaning in Boston's favor. Chicago would need not only a big night from Jimmy Butler and Dwayne Wade but also from their supporting cast.
The Bulls did anticipate this, and Isaiah Cannan will get the start in his place tonight.
