Kings Got Robbed In DeMarcus Cousins Trade & Twitter Had Some Excellent Jokes
The Sacramento Kings are notoriously and almost impressively bad at recognizing and/or retaining superstar talent; a fact that was not wasted on the NBA and social media communities in the immediate aftermath of their not-so-blockbuster trade with the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night.
The Kings sent DeMarcus Cousins and Omri Casspi to the Pelicans in exchange for Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, a 2017 first-round and second-round picks. So while the move will see Cousins play alongside young phenom Anthony Davis in New Orleans, whose 52 points earned him All-Star MVP honors while this trade was being executed, Sacramento is back to square one with absolutely no building block to speak of.
It's already being called one of the worst superstar trades in NBA history, and rightfully so. The addition of Cousins alongside Davis automatically makes the Pelicans postseason contenders, a fact that should have allowed the Kings to demand the sun and the moon in return. Instead they got a couple of picks and an under-performing rookie.
It's a brutal trade that has earned some hilarious reaction on Twitter. Here are some of the best tweets:
