San Antonio’s Robert E. Lee High Might Be Renamed For Gregg Popovich
There's been talk of renaming Robert E. Lee High in San Antonio, because, you know, Confederate names, flags and mascots are not very fashionable lately. Lee was a Civil War general with a frosty white beard who fought for the South, and whose home was commandeered by the Union and turned into Arlington National Cemetery.
So seizing on all of this, San Antonio resident Emmanuel Casasola started a petition for the name to be Gregg Popovich High. And let's face it, while Lee was a good general, Popovich does have more career wins.
San Antonio Express-News:
“I’m not advocating to change the name, but if it does change, it should be to honor one of our own,” Casasola said.
When Popovich heard about this, he of course was delighted.
“You got to be kidding,” Popovich said. “Are you serious? I would hope that you would use all your muscle or whatever you have to squash that ridiculous idea as soon as humanly possible. Can you please do that for me? Squash that ridiculous idea right now. That is laughable.”
