Source Close To Sixers GM Gaurantees They Pick Ben Simmons
76ers general manager Jerry Colangelo went on a Philadelphia sports radio program Tuesday morning and told part-time host Howard Eskin that he wasn't getting any spoilers ahead of the June 23rd NBA Draft -- even though the Sixers pick before everyone else.
“In the event of a draft pick you cannot publicly state who you are going to select prior to the commissioner walking up on stage and making that announcement -- even if we were set in stone on our decision, we’d be prohibited by league rules to do so in terms of telling people," Colangelo said.
Welp, looks like he may have spilled the beans off-air, because Eskin apparently done gone and reported that a source close to Colangelo (probably himself, duh) says there is “a 100% chance that the 76ers draft [Ben] Simmons" on the same show this morning. Sure, going with the 6'10" guy who moves like a legit NBA point guard may not seem like breaking news, but this is the Sixers we're talking about. For all we know, they could've been planning on picking a dog that plays basketball. Luckily, they're making the prudent move here and going with the most talented player in the draft. Disaster averted, you guys.
As for the Los Angeles Lakers, they'll be missing out on their next Magic Johnson -- something that seemed almost too good to be true -- instead having to settle for Duke's 6'9" small forward Brandon Ingram (which is fine). EVERYTHING iS FINE, LAKERS FANS. BRANDON INGRAM WILL BE VERY GOOD, DO NOT WORRY.
