The Daily Yam: Dwyane Wade Turns Back The Clock To When He Had Functional Knees

Wade dunk finalsWelcome to The Daily Yam, bringing you Yesterday’s Awesome Moment, anything else you might have missed, and what to look forward to today. It’s your one-stop shop when you skipped last night’s action, or have forgotten what day it is. Last night, Dwyane Wade inexplicably went off for 32 points, six rebounds, four assists and six steals in game four of the NBA Finals. For the first time this playoffs we were watching vintage Wade, instead of the shell of himself Wade, we’d all come to know and love.

Your Daily Yam.

Wade’s defining moment for the game came four minutes into the forth quarter where he picked off an errant Danny Green pass, evaded two defenders and took it to the hoop for a slam. This play was a combination of everything Dwyane Wade hasn’t been in the 2013 playoffs: a good defender, evasive off the dribble and athletic enough to finish at the rim.

Last night’s performance was Wade’s first 30-point game since March 4th during the Heat’s 27-game winning streak. It was also the first 30-point, six-steal game in a finals since Isiah Thomas did it in 1988.

So why now? Wade has proven himself to be a ferocious competitor in past NBA finals, but does that explain a transformation in his athleticism from game three to game four? Unfortunately, I feel their has to be some at least questionable medical treatment going on behind the scenes. Let me remind you that the NBA players are only subjected to four random drug tests a year and come finals time, almost every player has had all four drug tests.

What Else Happened Last Night?

The Oakland Athletics beat the New York Yankees 3-2 after 18 innings. The win gave the A’s a three game sweep of the Yankees and made them the second team to ever win to 18+ inning games in a season (they beat the Angels on April 29th).

What’s On Tap Today?

The US Open is on all day long, I know, the first non hockey and basketball night in a long time.

Welcome to summer and have a great weekend.
