The Decision Pt. 2: LeBron’s High School Teammate Proposes At Hall Of Fame Ceremony
As we (and, eventually, he) learned the hard way last summer, LeBron James is certainly capable of using an inappropriate platform to announce a life-altering decision. Apparently, he's passed this unfortunate trait on to his friends.
Yesterday, James and his four teammates that comprised St. Vincent-St. Mary's high school's "Fab Five" in the early-2000s were inducted into the school's hall of fame. Yet it wasn't James who stole the show as Dru Joyce III -- the team's smallest member -- decided to use the ceremony to prompt a decision on his own behalf: he interrupted the ceremony to propose to his girlfriend Lanae Patton.
And while the Fab 5 is certainly used to LeBron being the center of attention, this isn't the first time that Lil' Dru has upstaged King James. Back when they were freshmen in high school, Joyce, then all of 5-foot-2, hit seven 3-pointers in the state finals to give the boys their first of three state titles.
Since then, Dru has gone on to play at the University of Akron and professionally overseas, so it's hard to imagine that a person as successful as him couldn't have found a better time than a high school hall of fame ceremony to propose to his girlfriend.
