The Portland Trail Blazers’ GM Was Nearly Fined $1 Million For Saying “Yeah.”
During a recent interview, new Portland Trail Blazers General Manager Chris Buchanan was asked if it was too bad that there would be no NBA Summer League this year thanks to the lockout. Buchanan responded with a simple, "Yeah."
Harmless enough, right?
Well, not if you're NBA commissioner David Stern, who has issued a warning to all employees that they will be fined $1 million for speaking about the current lockout. Nobody has fallen victim to the fine just yet, but according to The Portland Tribune, Buchanan was threatened with the fine after the league caught wind of his one-word answer to a question.
“There’s a line in the sand that the NBA has drawn for everybody, but nobody knows exactly where the line is,” one NBA team employee says. “Everybody is scared, not wanting to be the first to be hit with a fine.”
Fortunately, the people we most want to hear talk about the lockout- the players- aren't subject to this fine, as you can probably tell by any of their Twitter feeds.
