The Secret To Stephen Curry’s Monster Season So Far? Floating In Salt Water, Flashing Goggles, Automated Toilet
ESPN's Sam Alipour recently went one-on-one with Stephen Curry, in an interview sense, and got some pretty interesting tidbits on the man whose amazing first quarter of the season has led Golden State to a 22-0 start.
Stephen Curry is other-worldly right now (see latest episode of Fargo for further details). He's averaging 32.4 points per game and shooting 47 percent from the 3-point line, and has become seemingly impossible to guard.
Alipour asked him the the requisite question on everyone's list: with the game on the line, who wins -- you or Michael Jordan?
CURRY: “It's a high mountain to climb, but I'm pretty motivated to take on the challenge. Whatever that means, however you got on that mountain, why not try to climb it? … Why else would I be playing [if not to try to top Jordan]?”
“You want to be the best you can be. And if the best you can be is better than him, then why not?”
But more interesting to me were these other comments.
-- Curry apparently spends one-hour sessions floating in a sensory-deprivation tank, filled with a thousand pounds of Epsom salt. Curry: "It obviously has some physical benefits, with [the magnesium in] the salt, being able to relax those sore muscles. But to get away from the demands and all the stimuli we have in the world and in our lives, that was the main draw."
-- His wife Ayesha gave him a new automated toilet, and he scored 46 points the day after he got it. Curry: "Oh, man, that toilet just makes me happy in life. And when you're happy, you play better."
-- Want to play like Steph? You'll need special goggles. Curry: "Like this drill where I wear goggles with flashing lights that obstruct my vision (while dribbling and passing). Weird, random stuff. Those kinds of sensory distractions are variables that take my mind off the ball and sharpen the brain, helping me neurologically."
