Sixers fans have trusted the process for a really long time. The process cost Sam Hinkie a job and the long suffering Sixers fans finally feel that they are heading in the right direction. With Ben Simmons, Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor, and Joel Embiid there is a ton of talent in Philadelphia, along with the massive amounts of cap space. Naturally, no marquee free agent wants to go to a place that has been tanking for half a decade, but that's not going to stop Philly from trying. So what if they can't get Kevin Durant or DeMar Derozan or Nic Batum? With the Colangelos now in charge, they are going to be damned if they don't get someone. And that someone is about to be Harrison Barnes.
The Sixers plan to be serious suitors for Golden State restricted free agent Harrison Barnes at the start of free agency, league sources say
The Sixers will set it to their fan base that they are signing an NBA Champion, a vital starter to the team that finished with the best regular season of all time, an ascending player, and an Olympian. Except, you do know who picks the Olympic team right? Yup, Sixers "advisor" Jerry Colangelo.
The part that Jerry Colangelo wants you to forget? Just how bad Harrison Barnes actually is. In the last three games, combined, finished with 15 points. Combined. Including zero points in game six. Does that sound like a max player? Does that sound like the pillar to a future Sixers dynasty? Barnes is a good defender, but mediocre in every other facet of the game. The Warriors will have zero trouble replacing him.
We get that there is millions of dollars of free agent money out there. We get that the Sixers seemingly have billions to spend. But spending it on Barnes sounds like a mistake. Unless it's not.
Harrison Barnes is a great move for Philly. Eats up a lot of the salary floor while enabling them to compete for high draft picks for years
