TMZ Snagged An Interview With Ty Lawson Right Before He Was Arrested For DUI
Ty Lawson seems like a particularly cool dude. He's an active Redditor and an affable interviewee. That's why it's so hard to watch him happily obliged a TMZ photog at the valet stand outside of Le Jardin in Los Angeles. You just want to tell him not to get those keys -- or at least give them to his girlfriend, "Bad Girls Club" star Ashley King, and have make her drive. What's worse, he doesn't seem drunk, so the DUI arrest that was awaiting him on the 101 is harder to stomach knowing he had his wits about him to know better than to get behind the wheel.
Apparently he's still in jail. Seeing as this is his second arrest for driving under the influence in a year, that's probably a good thing. Here's how the state of California handles predicate offenders:
Jail time is mandatory on a second DUI offense. The sentence ranges from 96 hours up to one year (depending on factors including .BAC) and pay a fine of not less than three hundred ninety dollars ($390) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000). In some cases, jail time is converted to house arrest. It is also possible in some counties to have part of the jail time converted to work service. Penalties for a second DUI in California also include three to five years of probation. In addition, you must attend DUI School for 18 months.
Here's the police report:
Annnnnd here's Lawson talking about weed with a TMZ cameraman outside of a club, just hours before he was arrested:
Lawson, whose name has been heavily mentioned in several trade rumors this offseason, is currently under contract with the Denver Nuggets for two more seasons. He's scheduled to make $26 million over that period.
