Top NBA Insider Says Dwight Howard Is Headed To The Miami Heat, Like, Soon
If there's one thing you learn covering NBA trade and free agency rumors, it's that patience is a virtue. The lure of seeing basketball players swap sides is inexplicably enticing, so of course fans and journalists and bloggers jump the gun when a juicy possibility rears its pretty little head. Social media has only exacerbated this impulse.
We want blockbuster deals and we want them bad.
One of the few NBA insiders who you can count on to avoid falling victim to such impulses is Chris Sheridan. He's about as level-headed as they come. Here's what he had to say on Tuesday about Dwight Howard's future in Houston.
You might want to sit down for this one.
[Sheridan Hoops] Dwight Howard is extremely unhappy in Houston playing second fiddle to alpha dog James Harden, multiple league sources tell SheridanHoops.com. And with the Rockets underachieving more than any NBA team, look for them to try to move Howard later this season.
And the destination that makes the most sense is Miami in a trade centered around Hassan Whiteside.
It makes so much sense, in fact, that I will go so far as to predict that Howard will be wearing a Miami Heat uniform by the end of February.
Although they share the same first name, Chris Sheridan has little in common with Chris Broussard -- whom we would not believe were he to have said something similar. This is about a solid an insight as you'll find anywhere, in part because Sheridan's logic reflects his comprehensive understanding of NBA roster construction, but also because the man has some serious credibility and wouldn't make such a prediction without having complete confidence in his information.
Here's my own personal rock-solid, take-it-to-the-bank assertion about Howard's future in Houston: whatever deal that's in the works has now been expedited because of Sheridan's article.
