Who’s Going To Bite On Trading For Dwight Howard?
According to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Rockets are now actively contacting trade partners for center Dwight Howard. And it sounds like Howard is on board with the plan: Woj says agent Dan Fegan is working with the team on "possible destinations."
The Rockets are in utter disarray at the moment, with the second-worst chemistry (more or less -- since chemistry isn't exactly a number on the stat sheet) in the league behind the Phoenix Suns. The team that went to the conference finals last year is "broken" according to the guy who took over for Kevin McHale, who got the ax early this season. James Harden is reportedly at a "boiling point." Ty Lawson hasn't worked out.
Basically, everything is terrible and Houston is either about to find out how good they can be without Howard or blow this up entirely.
So who will bite on a Howard trade? The 30-year-old is in the last year of his deal, and will almost certainly opt out and seek a max deal next offseason. Anybody want an aging, petulant big man with a history of cutting and running... for four months? Does anyone need a big man that badly? Before the rumors gained this much traction, one decent idea floated by Jake O'Donnell was Boston.
Could the Knicks lowball Daryl Morey and get Howard for cents on the dollar? Would the Blazers be interested in teaming Damien Lillard back up with a (theoretically) dominant big? Maybe the Hawks will flip their expiring center (Al Horford) for the hometown kid?
I'm honestly pulling these ideas out of my ass. I have no concept of who would want to trade for a guy who, for whatever reason, causes chemistry issues wherever he goes. Good luck to Houston in getting a decent return for the guy, and good luck to Howard in reviving his murdered reputation.
