WTF Rockets Fire Kevin McHale A Whole 11 Games Into The Season
Well, it's back to bartending at Cheers for Kevin McHale, I guess. The Houston Rockets fired McHale after only 11 games, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, noting the team's 4-7 record and four-game losing streak. Ironically, his last game was a loss to Boston on Monday.
But actually he won't be tending bar anytime soon. McHale had signed a three-year, guaranteed extension last year worth $13 million -- which further begs the question, why fire him now? Could a Rockets' players-only meeting held earlier this week have had anything to do with it?
Other reasons this is a head-scratcher:
-- The Rockets were 56-26 last season and made the Western Conference finals.
-- Houston is shooting 29 percent on 3-pointers this season, and that's hardly McHale's fault.
-- James Harden has a .372 shooting percentage so far, after having never finished a season below .406. His 3-point percentage so far is also an all-time low.
-- Kardashian curse.
