Zach Randolph Just Might Be The Sampson Of The Western Conference

Zach Randolph, following in the footsteps of former NBA marijuana aficionados,  has officially taken the title belt as the NBA’s #1 marijuana enthusiast.  After a nice turnaround season for the Memphis Grizzlies, a lot of reports are coming out of the Indianapolis area that Zach Randolph not only enjoys the sticky icky, but might be intimately involved in marijuana trafficking.  No word on Damon Stoudamire’s possible involvement, but this negates Randolph’s “I finally get it” year.

The Indy Channel reports that according to a probable cause affidavit obtained, a reliable police informant identified Randolph as a key component in the drug bust:

Narcotics officers were staking out a suspected drug house on Indianapolis’ north side two weeks ago when they pulled over Arthur Boyd, 32, soon after he left the residence, near 75th Street and Binford Avenue, police said.

According to the affidavit, the Cadillac Escalade that Boyd was driving was registered to Randolph, and police found marijuana and ammunition stowed inside.”One of his vehicles had what we call hidden compartments that contained suspected narcotics, that being marijuana,” said Lt. Jeff Duhamell.Based on information found in the Escalade, police later raided a northeast side storage facility, where they said Randolph rents four lockers.

According to the affidavit, a police K-9 alerted to controlled substances in two of the four units, and police found more cars with secret compartments inside

It gets worse.  According to The Big Lead, before Randolph started his ill-fated stint in New York, before turning things around in Memphis, he appeared on MTV Cribs, and the Portland police were disturbed by what they saw.  In the screen grab from the episode below, courtesy of The Big Lead, you can see a poster hanging in Randolph’s house imploring the release of Larry Hoover–reputed drug kingpin of the Gangster Disciples.  Doesn’t exactly inspire innocence.

Randolph has a long way to go in repairing his image for the umpteenth time, but he might have already gone too far.  Memphis fans now must rely on their crumbling franchise to resign Rudy Gay and hope OJ Mayo can become a more dominant force.  Doesn’t bode well for them at all.

Update: Randolph was apparently involved in a strip club brawl this morning.
