ESPN Basketball Announcer: “Get The Lingerie off The Deck!” (Video)

Longtime college basketball commentator Bill Raftery is so well-liked in large part because his excitement for great plays is palpable. Every big-time three in a game Raftery calls is a threat to get a trademark "Onions!" exclamation. And last night, near the end of a 61-58 St. John's upset over Georgetown, Raftery got so enthused that he had to put a new twist on one of his trusted catchphrases.
St. John's took the lead for good with just over 10 seconds to play, when Justin Brownlee cleaned up a miss by teammate Dwight Hardy. But it was Hardy's move that set up his miss - and by extension, Brownlee's score - that really got Raftery going. Hardy blew past a Georgetown defender on his way to the basket, and Raftery couldn't contain himself:
"Oh my goodness, lingerie!"
Later, when breaking down a replay of the sequence, he added:
"Get the lingerie off the deck! Explosive!"
Raftery has an oft-used line similar to the above, for when one player badly fakes out another: "A little lingerie on the deck!" But his modified take on it from last night appears to be a new creation. Hopefully, this season will bring us even more new (or slightly new) Rafteryisms...as well as pairings with Gus Johnson.
