Giant Humans Whiff On Opening Tip, Amusing Hobbit-Sized Spectators
Mamadou N'diaye of UC Irvine and Tacko Fall of University of Central Florida are both 7-foot-6, so the carnival barkers at their respective universities thought it would be a good idea for the teams to meet in an early-season game. And the crowd in Orlando was rewarded immediately when the two faced off in the opening tip.
Both swatted at the jump ball and missed. To be fair, to them it must have seemed like a softball, and those can be hard to hit with your bare hand.

The big guys, both from Senegal, kind of canceled each other out -- neither accustomed to playing against someone their own size. Fall had six points, four blocks and seven rebounds in 27 minutes, while Ndiaye scored five points and had two rebounds over 19 minutes. UC Irvine won in overtime, 61-60.
