Watch As UNC’s Harrison Barnes Tries To Troll Crowd Into Thinking He’s Injured
August 23 / Glenn Davis / SportsGrid
UNC basketball players occasionally play pickup games with members of the general student body. It's a way to build camaraderie, to just be regular guys instead of on-campus celebrities, to just have some fun with your fellow students. And, in the case of star rising sophomore Harrison Barnes, it's chance to try and paralyze those same students with fear that these fun, well-intentioned games have just torpedoed the Tar Heels' title hopes.
The Dagger points us to the video above (shot over the weekend), where Barnes is seen going for a loose ball around 45 seconds in, hitting the pavement in the process...and staying there for a while. Had he actually been hurt, this would have been very bad news for a Tar Heels team that became a national title favorite the second he announced he was staying for his sophomore season. Barnes played at an extremely high level at the end of 2010-11, and if he picks up where he left off, North Carolina won't lose often this season.
Of course, Barnes wasn't actually hurt. And unfortunately for his trolling plans, the crowd didn't seem especially fooled. From the sound of it, there were a couple worried gasps at first, but his fall just didn't quite look severe enough to think Barnes would actually have any trouble getting up. (Notice the laughs as he lay on the blacktop for evidence of this.) Too bad - had the plan worked better, possibly the only thing that could top it would be Andrew Luck fake-crumpling to the ground in a similar situation. For now, the injury-trolling title still belongs to Willy Wonka.
