Know Your NCAA Tourney Mid-Majors: The Albany Great Danes

  • Rick Chandler

We’re running down all the mid-majors in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament because let’s face it, you know nothing about them. Here now, the Albany University Great Danes.

Having beaten Mount St. Mary’s in the Forgotten Four on Tuesday, 71-64, to reach the Round of 64, Albany gets the No. 16 seed in the South and will face top-seeded Florida (32-2, 18-0). Ruh roh.

Guard D.J. Evans led the Great Danes on Tuesday with 19 points, but Albany is just as likely to have any one of its starters as the high-point man on any given night. Still, it’s going to be a very tough slog for the purple-n-gold, and it could get ugly. The last time the Gators were a top seed, in 2007, they beat No. 16 Jackson State 112-69.
