The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament resumes on Thursday and Friday with games in the Sweet 16, then continues on Saturday with the Elite Eight. Here is one of our eight short previews on the upcoming matchups.
No. 4 Duke vs. No. 1 Oregon
Thursday, 9:55 p.m. ET on TBS, live stream: OnNCAA.com.
Finally, now we're getting somewhere. The first real power matchup of the tournament happens Thursday as a top seed and a No. 4 seed square off. The winner will play either Oklahoma or Texas A&M in the regional final.
Duke guard Grayson Allen had 29 points in the Blue Devils' win over Yale on Saturday. Dillon Brooks led the Ducks with 25 points on Sunday vs. St. Joseph's. Oregon is in the Sweet 16 for the fifth time ever, and first since 2013. Compare that to Duke: 16 Sweet 16 appearances since 1998, and sixth in the past eight seasons. The Ducks are looking to break their school record for wins, which now stands at 30.
Two Fun Facts:
The Duke Lemur Center is a real thing, and is in the fact the world’s largest sanctuary for rare and endangered prosimian primates (caring for 15 species of lemurs, bushbabies and of course lorises). It takes up 85 acres in Duke Forest. Wikipedia: In 1966, a prosimian colony of approximately 90 individuals, belonging to John Buettner-Janusch, was relocated from the Center for Prosimian Biology at Yale University to Duke University, creating the Duke Lemur Center. Yes, this means that Duke was the lemurs' safety school ... Springfield, OR, which is right adjacent to Eugene, where the University of Oregon is located, was the model for The Simpsons' hometown. Creator Matt Groening has made the revelation on several occasions. He lives in Vancouver, WA, which is just across the river from Portland.
