Meet The Man Who Is Probably The Only Vietnam Veteran Currently Playing College Football
Alan Moore is 61 years old. When you get to be that age, there's a good chance you've seen a lot, and Moore has: he's a Vietnam veteran, for one thing. But even after having children, and then having grandchildren, there was something he hadn't seen for himself: the college life. And he had the itch for it. Oh, and he also had the itch to play football while doing it.
And amazingly, that's exactly what he's doing, currently suiting up as a kicker for Faulkner University, a small school in Alabama. Moore's coach, Gregg Baker, said Moore - who, yes, is the oldest player in college football history - pitched the idea of playing to him as "showing these kids that there's no reason to give up on your dreams, and no reason not to continue trying to get your education." Who's going to say no to that? And in case you were wondering whether Moore's really all-in on this college thing, know this: according to CBS' story on him, he lives in a dorm.
Another thing we found interesting about the Early Show segment on Moore: he says that, contrary to kicking being a "lifelong dream," he hatched the idea just two years ago. And while Baker subtly warns everyone watching not to expect to see Moore on the field much, there is some evidence during the segment that Moore can perform under pressure, so check it out:
