The Name Of Bruce Feldman’s New CBS Sports Blog Is A Nice Little Eff You To ESPN
Brilliant. Remember how when news of the Bruce Feldman/ESPN flap first hit, the outpouring of support for Feldman led to the creation of a Twitter hashtag, #freebruce, that immediately shot up the trending topics list? Well, as you probably know, Feldman's at CBS now, and they've given him his own blog over there. The name of that blog?
This name couldn't be better. In fact, it's so good that if at any point - even years into the future - the name of the blog is changed, "Free Bruce" must be commemorated. So, here:
First of all, it's just the latest sign (this, of course, being the most prominent) that Feldman will not shy away from shots at his former employer. (On that note, we should say this: one of Feldman's most damning accusations is that ESPN executive John Skipper told Feldman not to speak with ESPN's ombudsman, the Poynter Institute, when it was preparing a column on the controversy, but ESPN disputed this claim.)
And it even has another meaning. If you'll remember, the lion's share of Feldman's ESPN content was placed behind the company's ESPN Insider paywall. With CBS: not so. Feldman's entire introductory column (on tonight's TCU-Baylor matchup and what it could mean for Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin) is there for all to see. When you've created a title that serves as a not-so-subtle (and, in the minds of just about everyone, righteous) middle finger while also explaining something about the column itself, you've done rather unbelievably well.
