Cam Newton Visits The Tonight Show With Jay Leno (Video)
Cam Newton already had a Late Show with David Letterman appearance to his credit, and in the wake of Auburn's national championship, last night he added The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to his talk show resume. They joked about Leno's infamous chin, scooters, and even a little bit about the controversy swirling around his recruitment, and if one thing came across, it's that Newton is almost as smooth on camera as he is on the field.
Leno, vintage car/motorcycle enthusiast that he is, teased newton about the scooter he rides around campus, and also showed him a copy of the upcoming Sports Illustrated (Newton and several teammates grace the cover). Oh, and Newton said that outside of football, he loves kids and could see himself opening up a daycare center n his hometown one day, as a way to give back.
Also, to the show's credit, it didn't completely ignore the elephant in the room of the NCAA's investigation into Newton's father's doings, though it wasn't exactly a hard-hitting question (Leno asked him how tough it was to get through it, and Newton gave credit to his family, teammates, etc. for helping him be successful).
What was really impressive, though, was how comfortable Newton seemed. He joked around with Leno like any other guest, one who's presumably much more used to the talk show setting, might, and if neither football nor the day care center thing work out, maybe he can give showbiz a shot.
