Rutgers defensive tackle Eric LeGrand, who was paralyzed during a game against Army last year, has inspired people across the country in the months since with his relentlessly positive attitude and unflappable dedication to walking again. (We dare you to look at his Twitter page and not come away thinking you're going to conquer the world.)
Of course, it's all especially inspiring if LeGrand shows signs of progress. Fortunately, he's also done that, and today, just under nine months since his terrible injury, LeGrand shared perhaps his most encouraging news yet: "little by little," he's regaining the ability to stand upright. He shared this picture from his therapy session as visual evidence:
There's still, of course, a long road ahead to the type of recovery that LeGrand expects himself to achieve. But he hasn't given us any reason to do anything but believe fully in him. And to add another to the list of inspiring LeGrand stories that are already legion: a friend of mine recently spoke with him at a Rutgers alumni event, and came out of it feeling awed. LeGrand has left everyone he's encountered feeling that way for some time now, and he's going to keep doing it, because it's clear that's just who he is: a remarkable human being whose greatest accomplishments still lie comfortably ahead of him. We can't wait to see what they are.
