Lazy Texas A&M Collie Saved From Trampling By Heroic Cadet (Video)
As you know, Texas A&M's football mascot is a collie: the most beautiful, intelligent, loyal and apparently lethargic of all dog breeds. Tragedy almost occurred on Saturday during A&M's game with SMU when Reveille VIII -- A&M's current collie -- was napping beyond the end zone and was almost smushed. But a hero saved the day. Read these sub-headlines from the London Daily Mail's account of the incident to get the full dramatic picture:
Reveille VIII was napping at side of field during Texas A&M and SMU game
A&M's Nick Harvy pushed wide receiver Der'rick Thompson out of bounds
Thompson hurtled toward collie, who was introduced to university in 2008
But as he got within inches of Reveille, cadet stepped in and blocked him
Incredible moment occurred during yesterday game, which A&M won 58-6
My response to these headlines:
Napping? What kind of a mascot is that?
Der'rick Thompson: Collie murderer. That kind of thing sticks with you
"Thompson hurtled toward the collie" is perhaps the greatest headline of the year so far
Timmy saves Lassie from the well? It's not supposed to work that way
The collie covered, and is now 3-0 against the spread.
