Ohio State Coach Luke Fickell Would Ruin You In The Octagon
When the scrutiny surrounding Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel became too great and Tressel had to step down, he was replaced with the relatively unknown Luke Fickell. Fickell's been a key OSU assistant for years (before landing the top job, he served as assistant head coach, linebackers coach, and co-defensive coordinator), but it's still unknown if he's up to the task of running the show, and non-Buckeye fans in general don't know a ton about the guy.
On that last point, however, Dan Patrick is here to help. The radio host welcomed Fickell to his program this morning, and the appearance resulted in a bit better idea of who exactly has the reins - for now - at one of the nation's most storied football programs. And one thing's for sure - we're not about to mess with the guy.
In addition to being a four-year starter at nose guard for Ohio State, Fickell's OSU bio also lists him as "a state wrestling champion" in his high school days. Therefore, Fickell's answer to which Big Ten coach would emerge if they were all placed in the octagon didn't surprise us:
The best part: how matter-of-fact Fickell was in his response. He would not be swayed: "I know my abilities." We don't even really know Fickell's abilities, but we're inclined to say he's right anyway. But don't worry: he's got a softer side, too. When explaining why he hasn't yet talked with Terrelle Pryor even though he received a call from the Buckeyes' former quarterback, Fickell had a response that might get a few chants at opposing stadiums in 2011:
...In his defense, he was supposedly there with his daughter. And, you know, the octagon thing. YOU ARE AMUSED BY FICKELL AT YOUR OWN RISK.
