Maryland Used A Picture Of Regis Philbin To Help Signal A Play Last Night

Several college football teams use weird-looking (by design, of course, so no one else can figure out what they mean) signal-calling cards from the sideline. Here's one of Oregon's, for instance. Well, last night, Maryland used some of their own against Miami, and our Tim Burke noted the presence of an especially interesting character on one of their cards: iconic morning talk show host Regis Philbin. You can see him in the above screengrab - captured, of course, by Tim.
Is it a coincidence that the Terps showed Regis' image the night before Regis announced this big news? Well, it's either that, or that Maryland can predict the future (or, since both ESPN and ABC are owned by Disney, it's just the most subtle corporate synergy of all time). We'd understand if you were skeptical about Maryland being clairvoyant. But remember: Maryland was rocking those crazy uniforms last night. We're saying those uniforms definitely gave the Terps magical powers...we're just throwing that out there.
For the record, Regis and co-host Kelly Ripa did get in a brief mention of the Maryland's Regis image this morning. Too bad for Reege it wasn't his beloved Notre Dame...or maybe, given this, that was for the best.
