The Dumbest Fight Ever Proves There Is Such A Thing As Taking Football Too Seriously

The state of Oklahoma loves its football. Well, in general. Even in a state that prefers college football to any other sport and the Cowboys to any other pro team in any pro sport, not everyone's going to love football. And some of those who don't love football might even say so. But they will be outnumbered. And if they voice their football-related objections to a particularly strident fan, some really, really dumb stuff might happen. Something like, say...
According to Oklahoma State University police, two roommates at the school got into a fight about football that left one in the hospital.
Captain David Altman said two students in Davis Hall got into an argument over the value of football as a sport. Altman said the victim told his roommate football was a stupid sport. The roommate did not agree and asked him to go outside, Altman said. The victim told police he intended to leave anyway and misunderstood the question.
Once outside, Altman said the roommate struck the victim several times with his fists, causing minor injuries.
We guess this isn't really any dumber than coming to blows over, say, which player or team is better, but it's hard not to look at the phrase "got into an argument over the value of football as a sport," later see the phrase "struck the victim several times with his fists," and not lose some faith in humanity. Hell, it's hard to see the phrase "got into an argument over the value of football as a sport" alone ad not lose a little faith in humanity.
Yeah, we naturally get defensive when someone says something we love is stupid, but "defensive" usually means we'd say something back, not start whaling on the guy. The only relatively good thing about this story is that there were no more than minor injuries suffered. We'd hate to see this guy around an Oklahoma fan.
