P. Diddy’s Cornerback Son Is Being Recruited By BCS Conference Teams
He may be the son of a legendary rapper/actor/producer and business mogul, but Justin Combs seems to be charting a course that doesn't involve the rap game, but rather the gridiron game.
A 5-9, 175-pound cornerback from Iona Prep, the younger Combs is attracting interest from colleges after his performance at a recent 7-on-7 tournament.
At first it was just mid-major programs the likes of UAB, Wyoming and Middle Tennessee State offering him a scholarship, but now Pac-12 representatives UCLA and Arizona State are reportedly contacting Combs' coach, as are Cincinnati, Iowa, Iowa State and Kansas State.
Illinois has also offered him, and in a recent interview with Scout.com, Combs described his prospects in Champaign:
“They seemed very excited. We talked about the academics, the football team, the campus, the life there and stuff like that just so I could know a little bit about it. I am going to go out there and see the campus soon before my season.”
He is also competing for an offer at West Virginia's football camp this weekend, and is adamant about proving that he deserves a scholarship not because of who he is, but because of what he can do.
“Ever since I was young my father always told me that people were going to have something to say,” Combs explained. “At the end of the day it is all fun and games to try to get you out of your game, but you just have to stay mentally strong and be able to play through it."
