Texas A&M Is The Best Team In The Country — And The Trillest
Florida State is constantly making the nation wonder what the hell they're doing. Every week they're a soap opera. Last week, it was Jameis Winston's one-game punishment. This week, we're left wondering why they were losing to NC State for so long. It all adds up to one thing. They're not the No. 1 team. They don't deserve it. One team does. It's the Texas A&M Aggies.
Anything Johnny can do, Kenny Hill can do triller.
Against Arkansas, the Aggies operated with a loss, a lead and a tie. Hill performed perfectly under pressure in overtime -- it took one pass. He hit his open wide receiver Josh Reynolds in overtime on the first play from scrimmage. It was the poetic moment that established him as the Heisman Trophy front-runner. There's no argument there.
And don't even try and put this OT win in the same category as the FSU-NC State game. Arkansas is not a scrubby team. They should have been a Top 25 team heading into the game. Alex Collins runs wild on a weekly basis. He has averaged 5.3 yards per carry or better in every game this season. Brandon Allen is a no-nonsense quarterback. They looked sharper and more desperate than when they faced Auburn -- it was a different team.
For A&M, it all starts with the king of the hill. The Aggies quarterback has thrown for 1,745 yards, 17 touchdowns and two interceptions. He's added 136 yards rushing. He's mature, composed, accurate and poised. He's shrunk the shadow of Johnny Manziel and he's done it all on the football field. Do we wish there was a way to see if he could outdrink Johnny Fratstar? Duh. But alas, all we'll ever know is what Hill has done on the field. And it's better than way. He's sort of the opposite of Manziel -- it works.
Running backs Tra Carson and Brandon Williams are no joke. Naturally, Kenny Hill is their third leading rusher. Malcome Kennedy and Josh Reynolds have been solid in replacing pro
The Aggies and Hill first broke open the SEC skies by upset South Carolina in their first game. Since then, they haven't looked back. They crushed Lamar, Rice, SMU. They're overtime win against Arkansas was clutch.
So they're good. That's obvious. But are they better than, say, FSU, Oregon, Alabama, Ohlahoma and Auburn? That's some tough company to keep. Right now, you can't bet against Kenny Hill. There's no one better.
The good news is that their schedule will help them advance past those teams. They face Auburn on Nov. 8 and if/once they win, they'll leapfrog the Tigers in the standings. And they're an SEC team, so that will help them ascend in the rankings, too. If they can beat the LSU Tigers (along with all of their other opponents), then they've laminated their ticket to the College Football Playoffs. Their schedule is the perfect difficulty, because it's tough but the Aggies are tougher.
