Today In Football Head Injuries: Dazed Wisconsin Player Lines Up In Alabama Backfield
Just another reminder of how scary football head injuries can be: here's Wisconsin safety Mike Caputo early in the game with Alabama on Saturday, diving into a pile as the Crimson Tide runs for a first down. All seems well until Caputo lines up at his position, in Alabama's offensive backfield. Yikes.
The good news: refs and medical staff immediately saw what was happening on and stopped the game, getting Caputo off the field. But in a larger sense, I have a hard time seeing how they're ever going to develop head gear that's going to prevent the brain from being jostled inside the cranium every time the head gets struck. How can football ultimately survive this dilemma?
Caputo suffered a concussion and his status for next week is unknown.
