We'd Be Remiss If We Didn't Mention This From Saturday Night
The only thing I can figure are that the football fields in Utah are only 98 yards long.
Utes wide receiver Kaelin Clay was cruising into the end zone on a TD catch (apparently) on Saturday night when he dropped the ball on the 1-yard-line, then began celebrating. So Oregon's Joe Walker picked up the gift and ran it 99 yards the other way for a Ducks TD.
So you probably know of this by now. But did you see Clay's quote following the game?
"I know my teammates may not say it, or my coaches may not say it ... but I take full responsibility for what just happened," Clay told the Salt Lake Tribune.
If he's talking about the play, um, who else are we supposed to blame? The weather? Ghost defender? If he's talking about the overall game -- No. 4 Oregon won 51-27 -- then there's probably plenty of blame to go around. But the gaffe did turn a 14-0 Utah lead into a 7-7 tie in the first quarter.
Advise to Clay -- if you're ever fortunate enough to be in the end zone again, pretend you're playing rugby, and kiss some turf before relinquishing the pumpkin.
