Yes, Penn State Sent Jerry Sandusky A Season Ticket Renewal Letter
The second season of the James Franklin Era at Penn State is off to a rousing start, and an intern is likely hanging by his underwear from a campus flagpole, following this:
Penn State has admitted that mistakes were made when it sent out a letter, signed by its new football coach, inviting Jerry Sandusky to renew his season tickets.
Also, Sandusky is asked to schedule a recruiting visit to a Penn State basketball game.
In a statement today, Penn State said in part: “Clearly, a mistake was made and our database needs further updating and cross-referencing." That, apparently, is the new "Oops."
Degree of difficulty for Sandusky to renew his tickets: high. He's serving 30-60 years in state prison for child sexual abuse.
The letter was obtained by documentary filmmaker John Ziegler, who runs the website http://www.FramingPaterno.com.
Ziegler says he obtained the letter from someone inside the Sandusky household, but that it wasn’t from Jerry’s wife Dottie.
“Dear Gerald A,” the letter reads. “Congratulations on being identified as one of the elite college football fans in the nation. You have worked diligently to separate yourself by exhibiting unrivaled tenacity, character, and loyalty. Passionate and competitive, you are the leading standard of a first class fan base.”
Penn State said that the letter was a mass mailing, sent to about "30,000 people" (separate yourself, indeed), and that Franklin's signature was a facsimile.
