2 QBs Drafted 1st, 2nd in 2016 Pro Bowl Draft by WRs Irvin, Rice
In a weak attempt of life imitating art imitating life, the NFL held their 2016 Pro Bowl Draft Tuesday and Wednesday night, and quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Eli Manning were drafted one and two to start the draft. Hall-of-Fame wide receivers Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice made the picks respectively.
Choosing Wilson first overall might raise the eyebrows of Fantasy Football nerds the entire world over (everyone knows you wait on quarterback), but for this game, it’s probably the smartest move.
Manning, meanwhile, was an interesting choice, considering Irvin had already picked a quarterback. Why wouldn’t Rice pick someone else, knowing he’d likely end up with Manning anyway? (Let's not overthink this, though.)
This is why NFL players rarely make for good Fantasy Football players.
The rest of the teams looked a little like this:
Michael Irvin’s Team:
- QB Russell Wilson, Seattle
- WR Julio Jones, Atlanta
- WR A.J. Green, Cincinnati
- DE Michael Bennett, Seattle
- DE Ezekiel Ansah, Detroit
- CB Richard Sherman, Seattle
Jerry Rice’s Team:
- QB Eli Manning, N.Y. Giants
- QB Derek Carr, Oakland
- WR Jarvis Landry, Miami
- WR Amari Cooper, Oakland
- DE Khalil Mack, Oakland
- CB Marcus Peters, Kansas City
Rice reminds me of when your cousin Artie shows up to your Fantasy Football draft and fills in because one of the owners was in a fatal car wreck on the way to the draft. Then he proceeds to crap the bed with picks like Manning as his top pick, and not grabbing either Julio Jones or A.J. Green.
The 2016 Pro Bowl will be played in Honolulu, Hawaii, Sunday at 7pm ET, and it will be televised on ESPN.
It’s funny to see how Fantasy Football, which is a hobby that tries to resemble how NFL general managers work, has affected the game of football itself, turning the 2016 Pro Bowl into a Fantasy draft itself.
