5 Last-Chance Keepers to Consider For 2016 Fantasy Football
Week 13 is officially upon us! That can mean only one thing for about half of all Fantasy Football keeper league owners – you have until Thursday night’s game to make your last pickups of the 2015 Fantasy season!
The problem with that is if you are a team that isn’t going to make the playoffs, you lose out on chances to make some smart keeper pickups, while the rest of the league still gets to try people out for a few weeks. Most smart commissioners make a league rule that doesn’t allow any players picked up after Week 13 to be keeper eligible, but there aren’t that many smart commissioners out there.
Even if you have a smart commissioner, this could be your last chance to pick up a good keeper for 2016, so don’t let it go by without taking advantage.
5 Keepers to Consider For 2016 Fantasy Football
I’m only listing offensive players that are available in 70 percent of Fantasy Football leagues. Understand that most leagues are NOT keepers, so keeper leagues likely have some of these guys already owned. Also, I skipped quarterbacks because the only quarterbacks you should consider keeping are long gone in your keeper leagues.
David Cobb, RB, Tennessee (26 percent owned)
The 2015 rookie has been a disappointment so far, but the Titans are under new management and they have indicated they’re going to use him more in the coming weeks.
Dion Lewis, RB, New England (17 percent)
Not only did he have a breakout season with the Patriots this year before getting injured, but LeGarrette Blount is once again a free agent after this season. Lewis could become an even bigger piece of the offense in Tom Brady’s sunset seasons.
Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Tennessee (21 percent)
The 6-foot-5 rookie hasn’t done much this season, but he is starting to have some peaks to go with his valleys, and as I mentioned with Cobb, he’s under new management that is currently auditioning players for their 2016 roster.
Kevin White, WR, Chicago (eight percent)
If you’ll recall, White was all the rage this summer in Fantasy Football circles, many of whom were looking to pick him up around the same time as fellow rookie Amari Cooper. As a matter of fact, Todd Gurley, Cooper and Melvin Gordon were the only rookies taken ahead of him in rookie drafts this past year for dynasty leagues. But stress fracture surgery on his left shin landed him on the PUP list, and the Chicago Sun-Times reports that he took part in individual drills Wednesday for the first time. He might see playing time later this season, but if he’s healthy at the end of 2015, then he’ll be a huge pickup for 2016.
Josh Gordon, WR, Cleveland (four percent)
The suspended wide receiver is still under Cleveland Browns’ control, and while his suspension is indefinite, we’ve seen crazier things than if he were reinstated to play most of the 2016 NFL season. His talent isn’t in question, just his brain. So pick him up if you have room on your roster and hope for the best.
While none of these keepers for 2016 could turn you into a Fantasy Football champion, they could certainly turn into an interesting trade chip if you need to sweeten a deal over the offseason.
