Angry Grandpa Destroys TV When Panthers Lose … Real Or Fake?
North Charleston, SC resident Charlie Green wasn't happy when the Broncos scored their clinching touchdown on Sunday, responding the way you or I might -- by destroying his TV and other various items in his living room. Is this Super Bowl freak out on the level, or just staged entertainment for the YouTube masses?
Well, depends on how you look at it. Either way, it's pretty entertaining.
Think of that display as kind of like the Trump presidential campaign. No one really knows if it's totally on the level, but you can't look away. And there's a dip involved.
Green is what's known these days as a "YouTube personality" -- he has a Youtube page entitled "Angry Grandpa", in which he's been recorded destroying other things in fits of rage over taxes, politics, religion ... you name it. Charleston City Paper did a lengthy feature on Green in 2013, in which he says he makes a modest income from the videos, "but not enough to live on." He has more than 2 million subscribers, and some videos top 10 million views.
So it's doubtful that this meltdown was completely spontaneous -- his son just happened to have a video camera ready and was recording before he went berserk? Also his shock seemed staged.
But we do know that Charlie takes meds, among them anti-depressants. He lives in a a trailer in North Charleston, and is divorced. It's possible that he's simply a lunatic.
Anyhow, real or fake, Charlie is channeling the frustration that many Panthers fans are feeling today. "Damn you, Cameron!" was screamed in more than one household I'm sure. And if people possessed claw hammers, they may have used them.
