Bears’ Jeremiah Ratliff Suspended By NFL … For DUI Arrest Two Years Ago
Now let's all take a break and enjoy an NFL suspension that isn't likely to end up in litigation with unfortunate courtroom sketches.
Bears Pro Bowl defensive lineman Jeremiah Ratliff has been suspended by the NFL without pay for the first three games of the season for violating the league's Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse -- in other words, he was busted for DUI. It happened back in January, 2013, when he played for the Cowboys, and was arrested outside Dallas.
At the time he was given one year's probation and fined. Now two-plus years later, with Ratliff on another team, the NFL is getting around to punishing him -- that's due in part to Ratliff needing to complete substance abuse counseling and 20 hours of community service.
Ratliff will miss games against the Packers, Cardinals and Seahawks. He can attend team meetings but can't practice, which I'd imagine is the worst part of the punishment.
