Bill Belichick Crashed The NFL Network Booth And It Was Oddly Charming
NFL fans have seen a different Bill Belichick in the weeks following the New England Patriots improbable comeback win in Super Bowl LI. He celebrated fervently on the field after the game. He smiled a lot. He even started his own chant at the parade. It's been weird.
The Patriots have had a chip on their shoulder since the dawn of the SpyGate scandal, centered around cheating accusations against Belichick and his coaching staff. The defensiveness only intensified after last year's four-game suspension of Tom Brady for refusing to cooperate in the NFL's DeflateGate witch hunt. And as they've dealt with the fallout from those scandals across the course of the last decade, Belichick's disdain for the media has been at the forefront of their team persona.
However it appears that his fifth Super Bowl ring in fifteen years is the thing that has finally begun to take the edge off of ole Darth Belichick. Check out this video of him crashing the NFL Network broadcasting booth at the Scouting Combine on Monday, where he took the chance to swap some incredibly charming anecdotes with old friend Willie McGinest.
I've never seen Belichick like this. He's a whole new man, and he's getting a real kick out himself. Not only did he step into a broadcast booth and willingly put on a headset, but he actually seemed to enjoy it.
Still, no matter how happy he is right now, there's no way this lasts into the regular season. We need to enjoy fun Belichick while we can, because any man who thinks "No Days Off!" is a fun thing to chant at a party is definitely not going to be much fun come Week 1.
