Cam Newton was involved in a car accident in downtown Charlotte this morning.
[Charlotte Observer] A car crashed and overturned on the Church Street bridge over I-277 about 12:30 p.m. and ambulances are on the scene. A second car involved in the crash is also in the road, near Hill Street.
An Observer photographer at the scene said Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was injured in the wreck.
As we currently understand, Newton is awake and has been taken to the hospital as a precaution. Initial reports incorrectly had Newton breaking both his legs, which appears to be very far from the truth.
The Panthers are now reporting Newton sustained "two transverse fractures in his lower back," which sounds bad, but could be more of a pain issue than one that limits his mobility.
Tony Romo played through a similar injury back in November.
Further testing revealed that Cam Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back and no further internal injuries.
